Blowin' Steam

Have you ever heard of the parable about the fox, the old lady and the leap? Neither have I.

One day, a fox was walking the road to castle Greyskull. Speaking of castle Greyskull, did you ever notice that the opening theme to He-man is so gay? Think about it and I quote, "fabulous secret powers were given to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said by the power of Greyskull!" Tell me that ain't gay.

So anyway, the fox and the old lady leapt from a cliff. They hit some rocks on the way down and died. The fucking end.

Hardy har har.

We walked to the champagne

Its all about the moments.

For some strange inexplicable reason, I'm feeling good. Don't ask me why, inexplicable nga noh. Basta. Nothing major happened naman. I suspect though, a lot of minor ones that I will not take for granted.

My boss told me a while ago, that reading Hemmingway will be a part of my training. She read me some excerpts and ya, looking forward. I'll get to it as soon as I get some air.

I forgot how fun it is to listen to the Presidents of the United States of America.

So I've been going to a boatload of presentations and meetings, which means I've been hanging around the a.e.'s a lot. I'm happy to note that I think I've gained their trust and confidence. And we actually have fun, which makes work, less like work. I think it strange though that I'm having real honest to goodness fun with them. You find things in the strangest and the most unexpected places.

The team's still fun though, when we're not getting scolded that is. There'd be times when the mood in the room would be heavy. I take every opportunity I can to crack a joke just to take everyone out of the constant state of anxiety. Though things do get dreary here at times. It's just the constant bombardment of ... everything.

Funny thing, as I was saying to a colleague of mine, there would be times when I'd be super loaded with stuff and simultaneously be so freakin bored. I think it's wanting to do anything but the task at hand. *cough*shit clients*cough* Excuse me. Got something in my throat.

Ain't no thing tho. I've kinda learned how to roll with the punches. Slowly, I'm learning a little bit of everything. Slowly, I'm learning a little bit about everyone. There are actually real people here! It's amazing! Har. I'm amaz-ed. Ikaw naman oo, ang ibig kong sabihin ay masnakikilala ko na yung mga utaw dits. Like our head of media to give you a fer' instance. I see him everyday and he's just so nice and pleasant. I've never seen him upset. And even when he's irritated, he's still nice to you. I am a-maze.

So the other day, my dad texts me about me and the cousins performing a song number for my grandparents 60th anniversary. I was like, uh ya, sure. Um, let me confirm with the cousins.... type response. But of course I don't wanna do it. Not because I'm embarrassed or anything, it's just that... it's so lame. On the same day, my uncle sends all of us an email informing us about the upcoming dinner / anniversary bash brouhaha. I send him a reply which went something like this: If you guys are so hot on singing, why don't you do it? Of course I said it much nicer than that. And I laid out the various arguments that would help my cause. Tee hee, they bought it. I'm so good. I guess dealing with clients trained me for this sort of persuasive negotiations. Hah! I rock. So the tables have turned. Chris and I shall be doing the mc-ing whilst the adults will take care of the *mphf!* entertainment. Tee hee. Man, it'll be like watching a train wreck about to happen. It's gonna be so good.

I paid my dues! I have nothing to feel guilty about. The only guilt I'll be feeling is guilty pleasure bwahahaha-(pauses, looks over shoulder)-ahhahahahaha!

And on that note... good morning world! I'm off to the races! Wish me luck!

Managers & Technicians

Every time I start getting cocky, it goes and bites me on the ass.

Without fail.

Case in point. Last Saturday me and the dog pound went over to the fort to see the carney. You can't miss the yooouge ferris wheel disrupting the muted skyline. There were a lot of people but not so much that would deter you from going. Traffic was a bitch but as usual my parking luck kicked in and I was able to get a slot. slut. slot. slut.

I met up with Jor and Kat in this japanese restaurant that had really refreshing dalandan shakes. It is something best experienced and talked about less. That totally doesn't make sense. Anyway. A phone call later, I was with Alex and her sisters standing in front of the gates to Eurostar taking pictures and what not. No line! I rock. Tickets were breezy 'fo sheezy. We went in ahead of the dog pound, who would arrive a bit late. Eager to show off my oozing machismo I called out my first ride. I did not realize at the time that this ride would end me. To the ground.

Enter the Flipper. Or as I prefer to call it, the Fucker. It seemed to me like a namby pamby ride to get some jollies on. It looks like a modified tea cup ride. One that rises nearly at a 45 degree angle. But not quite. Maybe around 35- 40 degrees. Who cares. It looked very doable. Plus I get to show off my oozing machismo by besting this beast. Ah it would be a fun night indeed. Insert chest beating roar here.

I handed my cellphone over to ride management for safekeeping. Might fly out of your pocket daw. Sha! Whatever man. Let me on this damn thing already. I sat beside Alex who was looking a bit queasy already. Poor girl. No worries. I is here. Just then, a beam of light from out of nowhere shown upon my visage, outlining me in a golden glow. Insert angelic singing here.

One of the seat belt fastening technicians secured us in. I looked around at the other passengers. I let out a snooty humph when I saw some people change their minds about the journey we were about to take and kindly alerted the ride management of their change of heart. They were let down subsequently and as a matter of fact, so was I dammit! Get this ride moving! I'm falling asleep here! Insert thunderclap and flash of lightning here.

Finally, one of the managers gave the thumbs up and we were on our way. Hah, I told myself. These fools will be screaming their heads off whilst I shall laugh my hearty heart heart till the last tea cup stops.

Ah the speed. The rush. It's exhilarating. It's.. it's... it's pretty fast. Whoa! hang on here a minute. Whaaaaat's gooooiing oooooooon!?! My voice trailed behind me as we were moving faster than the speed of sound. And definitely not in a coldplay sort of way. We were thrown this was and that. I screamed. I shouted. I begged but alas the ride managers did not hear my plea. I wanted out. I wanted the madness to stop. I was convinced that if I lost my grip on the metal handle in front of me, I would die. White knuckled and all blood drained from my face I cowered on Alex's shoulder. Who closed her eyes the whole time. Sucker. I closed mine at least halfway through the ride. It felt like it would go on forever. It did stop eventually and my sanity returned.

I was able to pry my fingers away from the metal handle. I was exhausted. I was beyond consolation. We stumbled away in a daze. Unable to find words to describe the experience we walked to a quiet area where we sat in silent disbelief that we had survived such an ordeal.

Somehow, eating my words just isn't enough. There was no oozing of any sort at all. So much for that. A few sips of water later I realized that I had lost my wallet. Fuck shit fuckity fuckwad! I returned to the scene of the crime and consulted quickly with the ride manager, who on off nights, manned the cotton candy station a few meters away for some secondary income. Times are tough. She quickly pointed her finger at the yooouge sign right beside the ride stating that Ride management is not responsible for any lost items and that any loose items should be properly secured or turned into said ride management for safekeeping until after the ride has finished thankyouverymuch for pointing that out ms. I told you so but you just wouldn't listen now did you? DID YOU!?

Nevertheless, she did forward me to one of her associates who promised to assist me in my futile search. He was a kind man and did not further rub it into my face. Ok, he did but not as much as ms. I told you so. We rounded the perimeter and ran into another one of his colleagues. Who just so happened to find a black wallet, yay! Three cheers for ms. I found your wallet strewn at the bottom of the ride only it's missing P1500. Hokay. Now, I'm not a chump. I know what's going on. But they still tried looking for the lost money anyway. At that point, I was just glad to have all my id's my credit cards and my bloody check. They at least left me some money. Maybe they thought I needed some cash to commute home. I have a car kaya noh! Wait, let me check my keys. Hoo! Still there, good.

I felt nauseous but I was grateful that not all was lost. And best of all, I did not lose my dinner. Booyah! My compadres though were beat so we retired to the car to collect ourselves since our brains were still spinning somewhere between the hotdog stand and the portalets.

We returned later. Much later in fact, after a quick stop at the 7/11 for some gum and more water. We agreed that perhaps the only ride we'll endeavor would be the ferris wheel. That's about all I can take right now.

We sat in peace high in the night sky. Well, not exactly. There were two little girls with us in the gondola and one of them couldn't stop crying. Alex did the girl thing and tried to console her to no avail whilst I kept a firm grip on the railings. This thing really should come with seat belts or something. Remind me to speak with the ride manager on this one.

The breeze was cool and calm. The silence was broken only by the occasional sob. The ride came to a stop and we alighted. We walked and kept on walking as the lights and sound faded away into distant memory.

Later on, after everyone had left. I remained with Mario, a cup of tea and a waffle cake. 30 minutes later we were cleaning and sweeping in Monster's apartment. An hour later, we locked the door and left strangely satisfied. There's nothing like giving in to a little obsessive compulsive behavior to settle oneself down and get the world turning right again.

I am almost certain that I was a janitor in a previous life. Or should I say, cleanliness and waste officer.

Difficult Details

'Just For Now'

It's that time of year
Leave all our hopelessnesses aside
if just for a little while
Tears stop right here
I know we've all had a bumpy ride
I'm secretly on your side

How did you know?
It's what I always wanted
You can never have too many of these
Will ya, quit kicking me under the table
I'm trying, will somebody make her
Shut up about it!
Can we settle down please?

It's that time of year
Leave all our hopelessnesses aside
if just for a little while
Tears stop right here
I know we've all had a bumpy ride
I'm secretly on your side

Bite Tongue, deep breaths, count to 10, nod your head.

(sniff sniff) i think something is burning
No you've ruined the whole thing
Muffle the smoke alarm

Whoever put on this music
had better quick sharp remove it
Pour me another
and don't wag  your finger at me

It's that time of year
Leave all our hopelessnesses aside
if just for a little while
Tears stop right here
I know we've all had a bumpy ride
I'm secretly on your side

Get me out of here
Get me out of here
Get me out of here

A trilogy of songs in three days serves to color the tastelessness of these white walls. What else is there but to hope. In salvation. In some deep well. In some quiet moment a light must come to take away all weariness. Lift the spirit. Deliver an ounce of courage. We can only take in everything. It's only real in your head. But that's you. And what can I do? So hold on. Cry if you must. Shake if you have to. Tremble if you are. The game is mine to lose. But it burns me every time. And I can only watch as my ashes fall slowly to earth. And when I can't take it anymore I close my eyes and close all the doors that lead to the heart of dreaming. But then I'll be of no use to you. So waves of regret and disappointment wash away the only sandcastle I have. Only to build again and again and again. Light, too much light. Too many promises. I can't hold you tight enough. Slipping from my arms and I feel helpless to stop it. Please don't break me. Still I stare at you. Waiting for something. Anything. But nothing. Is clicking. Is forming. Is happening. Deep inhale. Ready steady. I'm gonna have a heart attack. Put on our faces. Shake off the rain. Tie our shoelaces tight. Here we go. (hopes and fears) Again.

Jeez. What a mess. I feel like I trashed the place.

Participation Required

'Goodnight and Go'
Say goodnight and go
Woah Woah Woah

Skipping beats, blushing cheeks I am struggling
Daydreaming, bed scenes in the corner cafe
And then i'm left in bits recovering tectonic tremblings
You get me every time

Why d'ya have to be so cute?
It's impossible to ignore you
Must you make me laugh so much?
It's bad enough we get along so well
Say goodnight and go

Follow you home, you've got your headphones on and you're dancing
Got lucky, beautiful shot you taking everything off, watch the curtains wide open
Then you fall in the same routine flicking through the TV relaxed and reclining
And you think your alone...

Ch.2

One of these days, you'll miss your train and come stay with me
We'll have drinks and talk about things, any excuse to stay awake with you
You'll sleep here, i'll sleep there, but then the heating may be down again
at my convenience
we'd be good, we'd be great together
*sigh*
GO!

Ch.3

Say goodnight and go,
why's it always always goodnight and go?
Oh darling not again
Goodnight and go

Thanks for being so cool with it.
But in case you're not telling me everything,
seldom honest in a state of regret,
then let me repair the damage.
Repeating mistakes every night.
You have to tell me when to go.
You have to tell me 'cause I don't know
me
too
well
tonight.
Drive safe.

Subtraction

'Hide and Seek'

Where are we?
what the hell is going on?
the dust has only
just begun to fall
Crop circles in the carpet
Sinking feeling

Spin me round again
and rub my eyes
this can't be happening
when busy streets a mess with people
would stop to hold their heads heavy

Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
All those years
They were here first

oily marks appear on walls
where pleasure moments hung before
the takeover
the sweeping insensitivity
of this
still life

Hide and seek
trains and sewing machines
Blood and tears
They were here first

mm what d'ya say?
that you only meant well, well of course you did
this it's all for the best, of course it is
that it's just what we need, you decided this?
what did you say?

Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid sweet talk newspaper word cut outs
Speak no feeling no I don't believe you
you don't care a bit

I'm so scared.
Scared to succeed.
It seems like it's all on me.
I got what I asked for.
Won't quit.

Face full of nervous ticks.
The weight of the world
on a high wire act.
the last leaf clinging to the branch
as autumn turns me over and over again.
I just want you to call.

And say you're sorry.
Then I'll say I'm sorry too.
But I don't want to be the first.
Because I'm scared you'll laugh.
I don't think I could put myself back together again.

High and low.
Ebb and flow.
Walking 'til morning.
Feeling for home.
That's all I want.
That's all I want.
That's all I want.
